After a hectic week at work, you often feel like breaking free from the digital prison of your work space and yet sometimes you might find yourself without a solid plan. Well, you know what, you don’t always need to have a plan. All you need is a quick getaway destination close to home to soothe your jaded soul. And that brings us to this issue's weekend getaway – Bawali Farmhouse - which is close to your home, and yet away from the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle. So buckle up and join us for the ride.

As soon as you step into Bawali Farmhouse, you will be greeted by the rustling leaves, chirping birds and flapping butterflies. Once you start following the curvy trail, the beautiful cottages, each distinct in their external dimensions and appearances extend their invitation. They make you curious, you explore them one by one only to be amazed by their quirky assortments and assertions. Nestled among an oasis of calm and greenery, your visit to Bawali Farmhouse will rejuvenate your soul like never before. Spread over several acres of land, the property has 25 rooms, each of which are based on different themes with much thought put behind them. Besides providing you the perfect hideout among nature, Bawali Farmhouse also offers a wide range of contemporary and functional amenities in a more traditional setting. The uniquely designed, well-appointed rooms come with air-conditioning, television, WiFi access, swimming pool and a dedicated play area for the kids.

A Delicious Spread Awaits You
Bawali Farmhouse is also a sought after destination for food connoisseurs. The carefully curated menu has a myriad of authentic Bengali recipes that is bound to leave you craving for more. Their menu extends from the kitchen of Rabindranath Tagore to the common Bangla Pally. They have carefully collected these recipes from different corners of Bengal and the chef would happily prepare them at your wish. So, if you want to design a personalised menu exactly the way the Babus of Thakurbari used to do, then do have a word with the experts in their F&B team.

Our personal favourite from the selection is Kochur Loti Diye Chingri, Doi Pona and Barishaler BhapaIlish which were absolutely mouth watering. But a quick word of advice, please ensure that you place the order at least 12 hours before your visit so that they can source the freshest materials from the local markets for your palette.

Their in-house cafe – Gunjan has gained a reputation for its signature mocktails and coffee. It is a place where you can spend a lovely evening with your dear ones with some coffee and music or simply enjoy your own company with your favourite book.
Bawali Farmhouse has recently announced the launch of their new open-air restaurant - Neel Akasher Nichey. This multi-cuisine restaurant offers you a delicious range of dishes from several cuisines like - Indian, Continental and Chinese. This restaurant is located close to the swimming pool and therefore provides the guests with the perfect setting to sip on their preferred mocktails and dig into their favourite kebabs by the poolside.

Activities for Guests

Angling
They have a huge pond teeming with fish. You can enjoy a ‘catch and release’ angling session with local fishing rods made of cane. Their in-house experts can also give you some lessons on how to cast fishing net. If you have your own angling equipment, then you can bring them too.

History Trail
Bawali is deeply seeped in history. You can start early after breakfast with the 300-year-old Bawali Rajbari and the ruins of the 175-year-old Gopinath Jiu Terracotta Temple. After which you can stop at Budge Budge Riot Komagata Maru Memorial to pay homage to the martyrs followed by a visit to the Ferry Ghat where Swami Vivekananda was greeted in 1897 upon his return from Chicago. In the afternoon, you can visit Raipur Riverside, Tong Achew Memorial and the famous Barood Ghar.

Bird Watching
Bawali and its surrounding villages have a very good population of local and migratory birds. Wagtails, parakeets, barn owls and a whole lot of bee catchers, kingfishers and local species are found in abundance here due to the lush greenery all around. A nearby village named Burul becomes home to thousands of cranes, cormorants and storks between their nesting season from June to September.

Village Walks
The outskirt of Bawali is marked by endless stretches of paddy fields and flower farms dotted with thatched mud houses. The staff at Bawali Farmhouse can arrange for a bicycle so that you take a ride along the bumpy muddy village roads. You can also ask their local guide to accompany you for the village walks.

Conference Centre
Bawali Farmhouse has an elegantly decorated conference hall called Alapon which is equipped with all modern amenities required to conduct a conference. With a capacity of around 50 seats, it offers a welcome change away from the boring four walls of your office conference room.

Bawali Farmhouse is open for day visitors as well. You can enjoy your lunch, evening snacks along with coffee or dinner without having to book a room. They also offer a ‘Swim and Dine’ package where you can use the swimming pool from 6-8 PM before devouring a delectable spread at dinner.
