Kolkata Municipal Corporation has added a new 3.8 kilometre road connecting the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and the Prince Anwar Shah Road Connector to the Basanti Highway (SH-3). The road originates from Kalikapur Bus Stand on EM Bypass and connects Chowbaga Football Ground at the junction of the Basanti Highway in Chowbaga through the Anandapur High Road and Chowbaga Canal Side Road. The road saves over 14-15 minutes of travel time from south Kolkata to the Kolkata Leather Complex in Bantala, also home to IT major Cognizant Technology Solutions on the Basanti Highway — a large stretch of which is now manned by Kolkata Police.

Existing route 

By the existing route, one has to follow EM Bypass from south and reach Parama Island at the Science City intersection to take a U-turn on EM Bypass for entering the service lane beside Ambedkar Bridge for accessing the Basanti Highway to proceed towards Chowbaga, Bantala Leather Complex and beyond. 

New route 

The Kalikapur-Anandapur-Chowbaga route now connects EM Bypass to Basanti Highway from right opposite the Prince Anwar Shah Road Connector near Abhishikta on EM Bypass. The road reduces around 4.35 km of distance and over 15 minutes of travel time to reach Chowbaga on Basanti Highway. Commuters coming from south or south-west parts of the city including Garia, Tollygunge, Metiabruz, Garden Reach, Kidderpore and Behala, may avail the road to reach Basanti Highway directly via Prince Anwar Shah Road Connector and EM Bypass, without taking the Science City route. Kalikapur-Anandapur-Chowbaga Road For accessing the new connector, enter Anandapur High Road from Kalikapur bus stand on EM Bypass. Continue straight on the road passing by Urbana housing complex and Heritage School. Proceed straight down the road to continue through the Chowbaga Canal Side Road to reach Basanti Highway. Turn right thereafter to proceed towards Bantala or Sundarban.
